A 1.7 tonne mini excavator is the go-to machine when space is tight but you still need real digging power. With a retractable undercarriage that squeezes down to under a metre wide, it fits through standard gates and side accesses, making it ideal for residential digs, landscaping, trenching for services, footings and drainage on established sections. Zero tail swing means you can work hard up against fences and walls without worrying about the back of the machine.
Our 1.7T fleet (including the Yanmar ViO17) digs to around 2.2 m deep and is light enough to tow behind a ute, so it’s easy to move between jobs. If you’re breaking out a bigger dig, hitting harder ground, or need more lift capacity for placing materials, consider stepping up to our 2.5–3.5T class — the extra weight and breakout force can halve your dig time where access allows.
